Shealyn Breen has recently joined the staff here at St. Thomas. Born in Indiana, she spent much of her youth in Lake George, NY and Wilmington, NC. Upon graduating she studied Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. After two years, though, Shealyn craved to live and study in a more Catholic environment. She transferred to the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio where she went on to receive dual degrees in Education and Theology.
While studying, Shealyn was blessed to be able to live in Austria and travel throughout twelve countries. She experienced the catholicity of the Church first hand and was deeply impacted by the beauty of our Catholic Faith. After graduating from Steubenville, Shealyn accepted a position teaching 5th grade at Pinecrest Academy, a private catholic school, located north of Atlanta. She went on to teach middle school history, Latin, and Religion and was a CORE team member for LIFETEEN for those five years.
Driven by the passion to catechize the youth, and having moved to Charlottesville, VA after marrying Daniel Breen in the summer of 2006, Shealyn taught high school theology at Guardian Angel Regional Catholic School in Staunton. They welcomed their first son, John Paul, into the world this past May.
When she had spare time (before the little one), Shealyn enjoyed playing ultimate Frisbee and being involved with music ministry. |
