Tony Poehailos

Tony, the eldest of four siblings, was raised Catholic in Milford, CT. He attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT where he majored in Biology and then got his M.D. from The University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington. Longing for a slower pace and intrigued by the “Jeffersonian Mystique” of Charlottesville, he headed south, completing his residency in General Psychiatry and fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at UVa where he met his wife Karen who was finishing her training in the Dept of Family Medicine. Tony is currently the Medical Director of a private Child and Family Mental Health practice here in Charlottesville.

Tony & Karen have been parishioners at St Thomas for the past 12 years. They have four children (Anthony age 15, Daniel age 13 and twins Stephen and Patrick age 10). The family loves worshipping at St Thomas and all are very involved in the parish community. Tony was re-elected to the Parish Pastoral Council this past fall and begins his second year as Chair in 2008.

In his free time Tony used to enjoy reading, golf, photography, travel and being outdoors. He firmly believes that God is best encountered in the “stillness of the day” and is desperately trying to rediscover that stillness. He is an avid NY Yankee and NY football Giant fan and also closely follows the UCONN Huskies and UVa Cavaliers.
